The principal structure is thought to have been built for the Upton-upon-Severn Turnpike Trust in 1822 in the form of a lodge house with angular front. It is currently a museum exhibit but it retains the tollhouse features almost unaltered.

External features include two-storeys on canted bay front floor plan, having a hipped, hip over bay, roof, with walls mainly of brick, roofed in plain tile, round arch headed windows with tracery, no porch with a square headed doorway; replica toll board placed in blind window. Central front door with blind window above and support for a lamp to the right.

The building was on a hillside and so the rear exit is onto a bank. The Gothick windows have all have been replaced during the restoration work. The interior is fitted as it was in 19th century.
